Massages with essential oils, a formidable healthy tool

Do you regularly resort to massages? If you don't, we want to encourage you to try because a good massage brings lots of benefits and it is even better when combined with pure essential oils since they add an incredibly powerful resource to protect and boost your health.

SINCE ANCIENT TIMES

Massage is among the oldest therapies, found in ancient China, Egypt, as part of Ayurveda in India, during the Roman Empire, in Polynesian cultures and virtually in every civilization

Massages are used to relax or energize, relieve pain, as a seasoning in romantic intimacy, to get attuned before a demanding activity, to recover after an effort, to promote emotional balance and inner harmony or stimulate self-healing mechanisms.

Historically, essential oils are used in massage because they help body therapists to easily slide their hands and their aromas make the experience more pleasant, but mainly for its great therapeutic qualities.

A QUESTION OF SKIN

Upon receiving massages it is important to have a qualified body therapist and use the best oils, that is to say, therapeutic-grade essential oils. You may pay less using synthetic or low purity oils, but it will be a deceptive economy as they will result unuseful or even harmful.

As pure essential oils are the concentrated essence of each plant, they have many nutritional and therapeutic properties that have already been certified by scientific research.

Depending on the oil, it can have antiseptic, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, detoxifying, anti-inflammatory, soothing, sedative, antioxidant, toning, energizing, antispasmodic, analgesic and immune-stimulating properties, among other qualities.

Due to its special molecular composition when essential oils are applied to the skin, they are absorbed immediately into the bloodstream and have a beneficial systemic effect on the entire organism.

STOP SUFFERING

Cramps, sprains, tendinitis, strains, worn joints manifested as arthrosis are some of the problems that people of different ages face and which often produce inflammation and pain.

With classical oral anti-inflammatory medication we have to wait for it to be absorbed through the intestine, metabolize in the liver, reach the bloodstream and finally arrive to the sore tissue. That is a long, slow tour with frequent unwanted effects such as stomach problems, blood pressure increase and toxicity in kidney and liver.

On the contrary, wintergreen oil (to name just one) has analgesic qualities that make it a sort of natural aspirin. When applied through massage, it gets through to the affected area almost immediately, without any of the disadvantages mentioned above and once tapped, our body discards the rest through sweat, breath and urine.

TOPICAL TIPS

* It is crucial to always use a "Carrier" vegetable oil along with the essential oil. Pure EO applied directly on the skin can sometimes be somewhat irritating while the carrier oil mitigates the sensation and softens the skin.

Mixing oils also prevents that the EO, which are very volatile, evaporate quickly and allow these to be extended and distributed far better. Fractionated coconut oil is excellent carrier oil with no color or smell, it does not stain clothes and the skin absorbs it quickly without feeling greasy.

* If you're not a trained masseuse it is prudent to avoid the spine and any sensitive area, and employ mild to moderate movements. Hands and feet are excellent for massaging, among other things because they have larger pores that favor absorption.

* It is excellent to place a warm, wet washcloth over the area at the end of a massage so that the oils penetrate more deeply.

* Avoid direct sun for about 12 hours after a massage with citrus oils like orange, grapefruit, lime, bergamot or lemon since rashes, pigmentation and even burns may appear.

* There is a fabulous massage technique created by Dr. David Hill which is a step by step system, useful for both experts and beginners.

This technique, which has its own proprietary blend of oils, facilitates achieving optimum results and decisively favors 4 crucial aspects of our health: stress management, detoxification, inflammation reduction, and autonomic nervous system balance.
